Classes?
« on: June 24, 2009, 05:00:02 AM »
I have found a place about half an hour away from where i live that do dog classes. They are once a week and these are the different classes -

Puppies under 6 months and shy/nervous dogs

Heelwork with basic about turns.
The Sit with assistance
The Down with assistance
Puppy Recall
Start of Recall from 'wait'
Stays - beside handler, improving to one step away
Socialisation & manners

Beginners

As above

Improvers

Improved heelwork
Next step of recall
The finish on lead
Stand (beside handler)
Start recall to heel on lead
About turns to a higher standard, including double about turns & left about turns
Stays - still on lead but handler moves to extent of lead
Socialisation & manners

Intermediates

Recalls off lead, including the "finish"
Start heel free (leads in pocket to start off with)
Start of Positions on the Move & Recall to Heel off lead
Start Drop on Command
Stays off lead
Teach "hold"

Advanced

Heelwork off lead
Stays, including out of sight stays
Positions on the move, Recall to Heel & Drop on Command
Distance Control
Seekback
Retrieve
Scent
Sendaway

My only thought is how am i going to do this with both Ellie and JJ? Do i just do it with one of them first then take the other next time round or shall me and Ant take them both?

I would really like to get JJ into agility, so i am thinking that i should just concentrate on getting his obedience perfect first then maybe let Ellie do the classes......

Unless Ant is going to follow through, I'd skip bringing him into classes.  Following along in class won't do much if he won't practice it at home.  You could take what you learn at class and practice with both dogs at home, even though you only take one to class with you.  Then put the other through classes later, so they get the "in the class with other dogs" experience of working through the exercises.

Once you take one dog through Beginners successfully, then you can move that dog up and start the next dog in Beginners, right? And the more advanced classes are at a different time or night?

That's what I'm doing right now.....Bella went through beginner's agility first.  Next session, which starts in about 2 weeks, Griff will start beginner's and Bella will do advanced beginner's.
