that you placed a dog in the wrong home?  I don't know if I am just tired and being emotional but I keep thinking about this dog that I took to his new home last night and I want to cry. I don't think it's the home for him yet for some stupid reason I left him there. It is not that the people are bad - I just felt this dog was VERY uncomfortable being there. He even growled at the daughter and then the wife. So you ask "what and you left him?"  I know stupid huh. So how do I go about getting this dog back?Huh?

i'd definitely try to get him back donna.  I'm suprised they wanted to keep him if he growled at them.  Something doesn't sound right.

at least you check the homes though.  the local rescue in town doesn't do ANY home checks.  They just adopt out the dogs at the mall and store fronts.  I've mentioned to them how negligent they are, knowing some of these dogs are probably tied out in the cold or ditched on the side of the road, ending up back in the shelters.

now that i have a responsible boxer rescue a few towns away, I'll volunteer for them, rather than the local rescue.

Until they do home checks, I don't want any affiliation with them.  It's just too sad.  They do ask for references on their apps, but they never check them.  And they never do followups to see if the animals are cared for.

follow your instincts donna  thumbsup

Well I went to the house and when I saw Buddy I just burst into tears. I asked them if I could have him back. We sat and talked for awhile and as I watched Buddy interact with him I felt better and said I was okay leaving him. The man was very understanding that I was emotionally attached to Buddy and said everything happens for a reason. He said he was concerned about Buddy's growling as he did it again towards strangers when he took him for a walk. He insisted I take Buddy home. The worst part was that the two little girls were crying and didn't want him to go. I did tell him I would find him another dog and how sorry I was, that I had NEVER done anything like this in all the years of doing rescue. I emailed him today about a younger Boxer that would be great for the family, but I don't know if I will ever hear from him again. I told Jim what I had done and he said that I was obviously stressed out so for now Buddy can stay. Here's a picture of Buddy and maybe you will understand why I had to get him back ....

He is such a handsome fella.  I'm glad you got him back, though I do feel bad that those two little girls were crying! I hope that the family contacts you about another rescue.

Awww, he looks so sweet. I am glad you got him back...you have to trust your instincts.  I hope the man realizes you were not only looking out for Buddy's interests, but his family's well being too.   thumbsup

Oh this is just one of those things that you have to put behind you. I think you have to go with your gut feeling especially when it is that strong. Sometimes rescue work is just messy and difficult but I think you did the right thing. Something told you that things were not going to work out with this home and you didn't sit back and ignore it...good for you. It's not always easy to do the right thing.

thank you for the kind words of support. I think my heart was telling me that Buddy needs to stay with me. Although I know there can only be one Rocky in my heart but I see a resemblance.
