Awwww Thanks for askin Joyce.

The lil snot is back to her old self. She's a pain in the butt, gettin into trouble, getting sweet angelic Grady into trouble, sassing and back talking every chance she gets, still trying to eat the Christmas pressies, tryin to chase the cat, has spent much time in time out....you name it....her sassafrass is back!

Physically tho, she's still having some issues. She's still on leash walks to potty outside (honestly, even when she is able to run freely - which we dont know how long that will be, or if she'll ever be able to - I dont know how I'll be able to let her go without freakin out!), so as much as she wants to run and be a freak nugget...she can't. She's getting a lil bit better about being able to sit, but her hock is still very sensitive and is the reason (along with the HD giving her problems as well) she's still toe touching that leg when she is standing. She puts full weight on it when she's walking....but the PT thinks there is some nerve damage from the surgery. Her range of motion in that leg is pretty good considering...it's the hock that's her issue. And of course, her hips.

There are days where she gets all freaky-deaky and when she's hoppin around chasing the cat, or trying to run away from us so we can put her in the crate....she'll lay down and kinda corncob at her hip and leg. But with the physical therapy, those days are getting alot better. She's doing really well with the PT and has about 5 more sessions to go, we've been going once a week, every week. With my travel and work schedule, it's been really hard to get her there twice a week like we had hoped. But I have some time off next week and we'll get her in twice then. But so far, it's really been a big help. She's got her booty back. Her mind is totally over this and is ready to be back to normal....but her body is still giving her limitations that she just can't understand. But, all in all, it's a Massive improvement to where she was in August. She gets up on the couch and lays and snuggles with us anytime we'll let her. She's hopped up on our bed a couple of times (big NO! NO!), but did it with grace - not as clumsy as she was when she tried before. She has a new set up at bedtime, with her bed, some extra pillows around the bed, a blankie that she gets tucked into everynite to make sure she stays warm, and then we put the gate up. Otherwise, she'd be up in the bed with us and that just makes me nervous. She's too quick to wanna jump down.

So yeh, she's doing so much better. Thanks so much for asking and for all your support. I love having my Rubi Doobie back....but then again, there are times where I miss the quiet, contained Rubi...altho I NEVER want to travel down that road again. Ever!

I am glad to hear that mentally she is her old self again.   Fingers Crossed that with the therapy and time she will be able to run around free again.  I am glad she has gained some weight back and hope she likes her new bed arrangement (not as much as snuggling in your bed) but nice snug and warm just the same.  Give Rubi a big hug from me and Precious.  So glad to hear she is improving so much and hoping for more and more improvement.

I'm so glad to hear she's doing pretty well! Although I'm sure you wouldn't mind a little less sass with the same amount of health  Wink

Have you considered trying acupuncture for her? I'm just wondering if that might help her with the functionality.  Might not, but it was just a thought that sprang up when I was reading your description.  Aaron and I have both had some more minor nerve issues "fixed" with a little acupuncture and cold laser. Maybe if the nerve problem is more of a block than permanent injury, it would help?

(ok, I just had it all typed out and Rubi came over and somehow deleted the entire message! lol so let me try this again)

Actually, funny you mention that. They do have one they recommend and we've considered doing it. She does appts at the Water Therapy place once a week??/month?? so we'd either set up an appt with her at her usual office (which is actually closer to us) or try to fit it in with a water therapy appt. But Shawn saw her Friday when he took Rubi for me while I was in Houston, and said the dogs she was working with, yelped each time she stuck them. Not sure how common that would be, as anytime I've seen it done...the dogs don't even flinch. So, that made me a bit nervous. I have an appt Thursday morning for Rubi's PT, and will ask Mickey what her thoughts are. I've heard her talk to other clients about it, and said it could go either way as far as success/progress. But I'm definitely considering it.  Just want to hear more, and maybe try to see it for myself before I decide on going with this lady or looking for another option.

YIKES! Yelping definitely doesn't sound normal. Unfortunately, there are bad acus just like other health professionals and it could be that this woman isn't very good.  I'd expect a dog to possibly show discomfort or nervousness, but not actual pain.  confused

That would be great if accupuncture could give her some relief.   Fingers Crossed

I did Acupuncture on both Hailey angel and Goofy.  They never flinched at all.  Andd G-mon is the biggest whoosie ever! I would give it a try and see how she does.  If she yelps, stop and don't do it.  The hardest part I thought I would have with G-mon was to keep him still for the time the needles are in place.  Hailey angel just slept, and so did the Goofster. I think the needles send off good endorphins and makes then sleepy.

I highly recommend acupuncture for doggies with arty, or other pain.  I used on my sweet angel Hailey for the DM, didn't stop it, but I think it may have slowed it down a bit.

I am so happy to hear that Rubi is doing much better!  Sending lots of vibes that she continues to do so and can run around off leash again one day.  Smiley
