Do you guys have trouble getting them to eat dry food by itself? My previous boxer and my current Westie would never eat dry food alone, I always have to feed a canned food mixed with the wet food.

Mine both eat dry food alone, but that's what I raised them on. I rarely use add-ins, except for their probiotic powder.  They know that kibble is dinner - extras are 'special', not expected.

Sam get dry food, with supplements added. Once in a while I will add something to his food, like cottage cheese, eggs, yogurt, canned tripe.

Ours only eat dry food; I only recently began adding in a tiny bit of canned because it slows Riley down and he is a really fast eater (I think he wants to savor the extra instead of gulping it down! haha).

We also add some warm water to their dry food to soften it up for them.

I always add add-ins when feeding kibble!  And they will also eat dry without no problem.

Sometimes they get add-ins, sometimes they don't.  I just mix it up so they never know what's coming....and they eat whatever gets put in front of them.  I actually just bought some canned food to mix in for the first time in several months.

I have never had a boxer that wouldn't eat dry food with or without add ins. Vik on the other hand doesn't even want to eat raw food sometimes let along dry inquisitive

Hmmm...I guess I've had some picky dogs! Maybe its because they get spoiled with table food scraps and dry food seems too boring after that.

What is the probiotic powder you use?

My Boxers will eat shit off a dirty stick.  Never had a problem getting them to eat.  Roll Eyes
I do use add ins mostly for Capone.  Zeus is really picky so I add in stuff for him all the time.

I had problems with my first 2 boxers not eating kibble . I was always adding things in to make them keep weight on .  wall

Now that I feed raw I never have to worry about her eating . She lets me know when dinner is late .

Yeah, I use add-ins a lot more if I'm trying to get them to gain weight.  I haven't used them lately because Griff is looking pretty good (needs to continue filling out, but I figure I'll only make him fat right now if I try to force it) and I've pretty much given up on Bella.  I don't think I'll ever get weight on her.

Rubi used to be REAL picky. It seemed like the only time she would eat is if something's in there - or she had skipped so many meals and even then she'd just take a nibble and walk away.

Grady is my chow hound. He'd eat rocks if I put them in his bowl. LOL

Since we got Grady, Rubi was more excited about eating - guess the competition was more than enough for her to realize that food was ok. LOL But she's been on probiotics for a few  months now and is my biggest begger when it comes to time to eat. And she finishes every drop. She's not missed a meal (with the exception of when she was sick) for over a year.

I'm in the same boat as you, Dawn - Bella has become a MUCH better eater since we got Griff.  Baby Griff used to CHOW down on his food and finish in record time, and I guess once he started getting the nerve to try to steal a bite from her bowl, it started inspiring her to eat faster (not that I would let him do it, but I pretty much have always had to keep an eye on them or they'll end up switching bowls because they're never on the same food and the other one's food is always better!).  Now, for some reason, Griff is my slow eater, but only at breakfast.  They both finish dinner in like 2 minutes.
