When dogs come into the store I work at that have allergies, if they haven't done the allergy blood test. We start by doing an elimination diet.

We like to start with either California natural lamb and rice or chicken and rice. They are the 2 simplest foods and we go from there if needed to one of the natural Balance allergy diets. We also have great success with California Natural's Herring and sweet potatoe if it is a protein allergy and not grain based.

If you want to start an elimination diet and think he can do rice, I would start with one of the california Natural foods.

Good Luck!

We have tried CA natural(fish), he did good on it, but lost interest. I was thinking of just going back to Natural Balance, we tried fish, and did good on it. I was thinking of trying the lamb and rice, since hes pretty much been on fish since I brought him him. I am about half way through my TOTW bag, so I need to grab something so i can slowly switch him over.

I also stopped giving him the Natures Farmacy digestive power just to see it that is what is causing him to poo a lot.

Koda has been on NB Potato and Duck and has done well on it for a long time. Now he is starting to have trouble again more often, and we're trying out Pinnacle's Duck and Potato formula. So far, it seems to be working well for him.

It's more expensive, but at this point we don't have a lot of options since we've tried about every food there is!  Roll Eyes

I was looking into that one, but it's $70 a bag Eek! at the local feed store. Can't afford that right now.

We are still switching to NB lamb. So far so good.

Stori's allergic to chicken and we had her on Blue Buffalo lamb and rice puppy food, now she's on Blue Buffalo salmon and sweet potato.  She loves it and doing really well on it.  Her coat is nice and shiny from the salmon.

This is what Remi is on and she is doing well on it. Did you see that they came out with new flavors. A couple of them are limited ingredient foods as well.

Samson is getting yeasty feet, but this is because we go run around on a damp grass field. Ive been using the malaseb spray amber sent me awhile back.

Edit: just looked up malaseb spray and its still on back order! its been on back order for almost a year. hope they didnt stop making it....

The Malaseb is still on back order. The company that makes it (DVM) merged with another that was monitored by the FDA and the other company has some screwy paperwork so the FDA has stopped production of the DVM products. You may want to try some MalAcetic products by DermaPet http://www.dermapet.com/prod-03.html. I personally use MalAcetic Ultra shampoo for my dog's yeasty skin http://www.dermapet.com/malULTRAsh.html. I used to use Malaseb wipes and shampoo for bacterial and yeast infections, but have found that the MalAceitc stuff works much better.

Haha I take that back.  Just got back from the vet and $400 later we find out shes allergic to her food.  So she will be starting a hypo-allergenic food tomorrow.  I think its royal canin

I would really look into something like Natural Balance, or California Natural. Not sure which one your are going to feed(they have so many different kinda, which is kinda dumb IMO) but RC does have grains, which she might be allergic too.

They just said she's allergic to her food?  They didn't tell you a specific ingredient(s)?  That seems like a shady way for them to get her on their prescription food so they can make some money.
