Skye is doing great!
« on: September 28, 2007, 11:44:25 AM »
My puppy Skye turned 9 months old this week and she is doing so well for me I can hardly believe it. Last night at her obedience class she passed everything she needs to graduate except for ONE thing.  She did a 5 minute down stay with major distractions, 2 minutes sit-stay with same, 30 sec stand stay whilst being examined, recall with distractions, heeling off-leash passed other people and dogs, and all of the elements of the CGC test (bar one). All with no treats during the item being tested but I could give her treats at the end of each test.

The one thing she didn't pass was one of the elements of the CGC test where I had to go away for 3 minutes and leave her with someone else. She was good for about 2 minutes then she started kicking up a fuss and whining and carrying on. For some reason I never thought she would have an issue with this and so haven't really worked on it (bad me)......I guess I keep making the mistake thinking that she and Star are the same and really they are very different and have issues with different things. So, I need to get to working on this so we can graduate from this class.

But, on the whole I am very happy that she has done sooooo well with everything else. This is a tough class because the distractions are pretty bad. The instructor has this fake arm that she comes and pets the dogs with whilst they are on a stay, she squeaks toys, throws balls and food around. So, I just wanted to brag about how well she has done. Her heeling is just beautiiful. I am really excited about continuing to train her.......

Way to go Skye.  I can't believe she uses a fake arm.  That would scare Precious to death

way to go Skye. awesome esp for being SO young.

yeah I was worried for our test on the 3 min separation. Sophia can be such a baby about being left alone. But I hoped she would be fine because she was with the test person. She just layed down and stared off in the direction I left. She did fine.

3 min is a while! We did work on this in our last class. We build up from 1 min and so on.

Wow, that's great progress!  Wish we had distractions like that in our classes.. although I haven't gotten past the CGC level class (distractions are things like umbrellas or cans rattling) yet, so maybe in higher level obedience classes.

Ah I would love to see some pics of Skye! I can imagine that the separation test could be a tough one. I know Toby would fail it miserably after about ten seconds.  For such a little one Skye is doing fantastic!! Congrats!  ;D
