GRRRRR!
« on: August 31, 2007, 08:20:03 AM »
Ok...so Abby was doing sooooo well with her housetraining...well it seems she has forgotten all of it! Yesterday afternoon I came home to pee in the crate...she was doing well so I put a towel in there for her to lay on...well she peed on the towel and pushed it in the corner!  :brood:  Then I was cooking dinner and Al was on the couch talking on the phone...she squated right in front of him! She had just been out 20 minutes earlier! He yelled, I ran in and put her outside to finish! WTH!  :smash:

Do you think it has something to do with the fact that someone was home with her since last Thursday and she was able to go in and out whenever?

I bet thats it exactly! I'm sure after getting back in your routine w/her, she'll be back to where she was before.

Al wanted to leave her out of her crate this morning...I said Are you crazy?  Of course this sent him into his "what is wrong with this dog speech!" Ugh...men!

Pee is much easier to clean up in a crate then on hardwood floors!

Right - like its your fault that she peed! You're doing everything you can to train her properly and this is just a setback.

How old is she? Is the crate too big? I heard that they may not be reliably (sp) house trained until 6-7 months old. I think I read that you just go back to square one with the praising & treating for going potty outside to get back on track. My husband would make stupid comments too, but I just reminded him she is a baby, and she has to be taught where to potty and when. It'll come, hang in there!

Abby was a year old in May.  She is a rescue that we have had for 2 months...she lived part of her life outside in a pen and then in the kennel...so she has had housetraining issues since we got her.  I just remind my husband that he is an idiot when he says stuff like that... :laugh4: J/K... :devilish:

I guess I will have to go back to square one...again!  :brood:

You are an angel aren't you. Good for you for taking in this baby. Keep your chin up. This will get better and it will all be worth it! I'm sure it's hard to undo the damage someone else did. If going potty in the crate is a big issue, I've heard you can take the bedding out. If it is a rare thing than I would work mostly on praise/treating outside. Another thought is have you tried bell training. It's just one more way of communitcating since she is still learning how to tell you what she needs.

I'd bet it's the messy schedule for her.  Be extra watchful and let her out extra until she's back on track.  She's probably just gotten all confused, she had an all day buddy/potty person for the last week!

Im sure this long weekend wont help either!   Glad to know it may just be the schedule and not a total relapse!  :dizzy2:
