My phone call w/trainer
« on: August 05, 2007, 07:20:36 AM »
went very well. We talked for about 45 minutes.

She also agreed that we need to keep water in her crate either a water bottle or bowl with ice cubes. She said that she isnt have accidents because there is noting in her bladder. And she cant learn how to hold it if her bladder is empty.  She said when she comes out of her crate and gorges herself on water it makes the urge stronger and she couldnt hold it if she wanted to and by that time I am back at work.  So I will start doing that tomorrow and see how it goes.

She basically said we were doing mostly everything right just not being consistent enough and that is making Abby confused and causing her to not be consistent.

So I have to keep a pee/poop diary for 2 weeks, put water in her crate and basically go outside with her every time and make sure she pees/poops in front of me and then praise and treat.

So miss Abby is not a lost cause and of course we are the ones that have to enforce and be consistent (cough ~ Al ~ cough)  :devilish: and not just shove her out the door.

It all makes perfect sense when I though about it and I now realize that we were the one slacking.  :brood:

sounds like it went well! I think  you're doing a great job w/her and that she will get the hang of it pretty soon.  Just give Al a little kick to his ankles and get him on track!!!

Good news!  I'm glad your call was productive!  (a little kick a tiny bit higher up might motivate Al a bit more!  :devilish:)  Abby's in good hands and I know you'll get this worked out in no time!

Glad the phone call went well.. even though it stinks to find out we've been inconsistent, isn't it nice to get that input from an outside source and have them put it in perspective!

Interesting info about the bladder stuff, I would if we should give Dash freer access to water.. he always chug-a-lugs and we are just so used to his pee-craziness from the prednisone days!

She said that she always leaves water in her dogs crates, either a water bottle or bowl of ice cubes.  This way they dont feel the need to overdrink when they get out.  It really was common sense stuff, but when you hear to from someone else it always makes more sense.  :laugh4:
