I need some ideas
« on: July 25, 2007, 04:15:26 PM »
Hi everyone,
Since Arbie was diagnosed with epilepsy and hydrocephalus his meds are leaving him ravenous. I currently feed him James wellbeloved fish and rice plus treats of celery stalks and carrots. but he's starving all the time. and he's putting on weight. I'm going to start home cooking as I did this with my last dog who had allergies. BUT I need some ideas on FILLING foods as what he is getting is not filling him up. Need natural foods without any additives!!
hope someone can offer help.

I know some people suggest canned or frozen Green Beans (unsalted) to fill them up.

Green beans are great. they recommend adding green beans to meals for dogs needing to loose weight. You can use either fresh, frozen or canned (just watch the salt content) but if you are making your own meals for him, I would opt for the fresh or frozen kind. Just add lots more,

Cooked sweet potatoes and pumpkin are two things that are great fillers and still have some nutritional value. If your pup can handle grains at all oatmeal is another good food that is very filling.
