Gunner & his story (kinda long)
« on: March 19, 2007, 03:33:02 PM »
This is Gunner and his story; He was being abused and had a collar that was too tight so his neck is irritated. Some relatives took him from these bad people, got him neutered and put some weight on him. After 3 weeks they decided he was too big and couldn't keep him so they brought him to an overflowing animal shelter. He was scheduled to be put down 5pm that same day. Luckily one of my volunteers got a call from the shelter and she went right down to get him. He was at her house for a day, came to adoptions the next day and then the foster/volunteer decided she had too many and could I take him. I could tell she was stressing out so I offered to take him to a place where he could be quarantined. Well he jumped the 6' fence twice that night and the person who lives in the house next to the barn called us and then put him a room in the barn so he couldn't escape. The next morning when I arrived he had a bad case of the runs and when I took him out it continued and he also was vomiting. I was concerned about him possibly having parvo so I took him to an emergency vet and he tested negative. The vet said a combination of stress and food change probably brought this on. She also said he was extremely depressed. This poor boy weighed in @ 91 lbs on Saturday but in one day he dropped to 85lbs. Needless to say Gunner is at my house and has perked up a little. Would you say he is pure Boxer or mix?

Wow how sad!! He looks almost Mastiff-ish to me, but I'm no expert :)  Good for you for helping him out!

Wow, what a sad story. Thank god he found his way to you. I dont think he looks purebred, looks to big. But I have to say he is very handsome and looks like a sweetheart!  :smitten:

Aww, he looks like a sweety!  Glad you were able to take him in!  I love his mottled markings!

Definitely has a mastiff-y look to me as well, but of course gorgeous anyways!!

He sure is a looker! :smitten:  Yeah, I don't think he's purebred though.   I agree with maybe a Mastiff mix.

He does appear to be a mix.  Just seems to big to be pure Boxer.  He looks like a sweety though.  Good luck to him!

He's sure a cutie! Thanks a ton for helping this guy out. My guess would be a mix, his face looks a bit mastiffy to me. He's also very big!

I wouldn't even say he neccessarily has boxer in him.. He looks like a cross with one of these:

Can you see how any possible boxer traits could have come from a mastiff (the jowls, shape of the ears etc)?

He is sooo beautiful though!  :smitten:

I don't think you will have any trouble rehoming him!
