What is your favorite Homemade Dog Treat Recipe?
« on: November 12, 2012, 10:05:08 PM »

So I'm toying with the idea of making homemade dog treats as christmas presents to my friends dogs.

I would love to hear your favorite recipe for dog treats!

That's a great idea!

Mine go ape-sh!t for salmon fudge. But I also have a turkey meatball recipe (mostly turkey, oatmeal, sweet potato) and a pumpkin cookie recipe, that they totally love. A friend sent me one for zuchini treats, that I haven't made yet. I'll try to gather all my recipes up and copy and paste them later for ya.

Yeh, the problem with the turkey (and the salmon ones) are that they'd go bad pretty quickly if left out. I keep them refrigerated, or freeze what I won't use in a few days. The pumpkin ones were awesome (and almost good enough for me to eat, lol). Will work on digging those out for ya.

Would love recipes! I've got one of those doggie cookbooks on my kindle I think. One of those free book deals. I'll see what I can find in that.

Here are the Pumpkin cookies:

This is another pumpkin treat that I saved as I wanted to give it  try:

Recipe for Salmon Fudge:
http://home.gwi.net/~seadog/tunafudge.html

The zucchini muffins recipe from a friend that I wanted to try:
This recipe makes 12 mini muffins. I triple this so I get 36. And today, I only filled the cups half full so they bake better and I can quarter each muffin so as treats the dogs aren't getting tons. I also add extras in with out a problem. If you have extra grated zucchini or squash, just throw it in.  This is very, very moist batter. (Soupy) I buy 3 large zucchini to triple the recipe.

1/4 Cup Coconut flour  (have not been able to find this) I use brown rice flour.
1/4 Teaspoon baking soda
1 Teaspoon cinnamon
2 eggs
1/4 Cup applesauce. ( I used sugar free or unsweetened) Regular is high in sugar!
1-1/2 Cups grated zucchini (unpeeled) Can use acorn squash, butternut squash, or sweet potatoes (These must be peeled)

I also added grated coconut (Not the sugared kind) I found this at Compare foods.  see picture

Pre heat over to 350 degrees
Combine first three ingredients. Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
I use non stick muffin pans so no need for greasing pans or those paper cups.
Spoon into pans, can fill to top or half was as I did. They do not raise so can fill to top.
Bake for 40 minutes.

Need to find the turkey meatball recipe.

I found this other recipe while lookin for the turkey meatballs. I made this one too and thought they were "eh" but the dogs loved em. Guess that's all that matters. But this is also another one that needs to be kept refirgerated.

Just popped these in the oven...I omitted the salt, didn't feel my dogs really needed it.
