Since I'm not good at waiting, I called again. Of course they hadn't called because he was fine and recovery so that he'd be ready for his scheduled pickup.  I told them given his medical history, I just had to hear that he made it out OK! So WHEW.

So I pick him up at 3:30pm and the real fun begins... trying to keep him settled down for 7 days with a puppy in the house.  :smash:

Poor Bubba is home and resting (un)comfortably.  Along with the neuter, the vet also removed a gum growth (epulis) and expressed his anal glands while he was under.  He's had a helluva day!  The tech that brought him out said he'd been an extremely good boy for them, both before and after.

He is acting so quiet and out of sorts right now, it just breaks my heart.  I took this pic after getting him in the car and he was drooping as I was taking the shot but didn't want to lay down:

I finally went out back and gently moved him into a down so he wouldn't have to hold himself up while I drove.  He hung his head over the side until, just as we arrived home, the cone fell off his head (was that your plan all along, baby boy?)  I didn't have the heart to put it back on him right away, so he's currently snuggled in his crate wrapped in a blanket. He is in my line of sight so I can stop him if he starts messing w/things.

Delta seems very unsympathetic and uninterested in him so far.  When I crated him, I let her out and she just raced off after the scent of the wet food I gave him in the living room.  ::)  I am not going to let her see him out of his crate until he's feeling better, I'm pretty sure he'd bite her head off if she tried any puppy antics right now.

Star has done that sad droop every time I bring him home from a surgery. I don't know why they refuse to lie down, just droop until they drop. I'm glad he's home and things went well today. He'll feel like a new man tomorrow once the drugs wear off.

Well it only took about 36 hours for him to feel well enough to want to play.  But we gave him some of his pain meds (less than full dose) and apparently it makes him feel a little sleepy because he's been cuddling ever since.   We got an inflatable cone to use last night and he seemed less bothered by it than the "comfy" cone though he still wasn't a big fan.

I think they don't like stuff up around thier eyes. It seems  to bother them. Plus the inflatable one is like a build it in pillow.

Yeah, it actually reminds me of Aaron's airline pillow that Dash has been known to snuggle with  :smitten:

I didn't bother with the collar last night or today because he hadn't been bothering it much.  He licked it some, but didn't get obsessive about it... and the incision is right under his penis, so I figure he's got to have a chance to clean that area! Things look tender but healing nicely.
