Health Survey - can you fill it out?
« on: February 11, 2012, 03:09:09 PM »
Can you all take the time to fill out this health survey. See email below from Judy Voran -

At this point the the number of health records of Boxers entered into the
Boxer Health survey is 263.  I think that all of you can determine for
yourselves that this is a small percentage of the Boxers for which health
records -- birth date, country of birth, date of death, cause of death --
are available to Boxer breeders and owners  in all countries.  The
remaining areas where testing information on individual Boxers is also
available to individual breeders/owners is extremely valuable to further
research in all areas of Boxer health.

You -- as the breeders and owners of Boxers -- are the keys to Boxer health
and longevity.  You hold the information on your individual Boxers and
their health history.  You can argue endlessly on mailing lists about your
own beliefs in regard to health testing and the results.  However the
information that you record honestly about each Boxer you have bred or
owned is extremely important for an understanding of the historical state
of Boxer health and the current status of Boxer health.  The information
that you enter on each of your Boxers provides a basis for further research
into such issues as heart, DM, thyroid, hip dysplasia and other health
issues.

As someone who wrote to me about 10 days ago said -- it is HUGELY important
to provide this information for the health of the breed.  However, this
person also said that there are many distractions in the lives of all of us.

I challenge each and every one of you who are reading this post to sit down
with your calendar books -- online or printed -- and work out a date on
which you can carve out some time to get your records together to enter
information about your Boxers -- and then sit down and enter the
information.  It may very probably be one of the most important things you
do in the next few weeks.
I challenge the members of these two mailing lists to double the number of
health records entered for Boxers on the Survey Monkey website in the next
two weeks.  The link to the entry forms is
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QSFKQ3V.  Click on that link and you are in
the location to make your very important contribution to Boxer health.
Please understand that there is no way to trace your entry back to the
identity of the individual Boxer for whom health records are entered or to
the breeder or owner of any Boxer.

The challenge has been issued.  Are you up to the challenge?

Done for Grady. Not sure if I'll include Rubi. No telling she's mixed somewhere in her lines, so I will leave her out.

Poppy and Daisy are done.

I'm curious what the results will show when you mix the results of byb and a well bred dog? Won't it make the good one look less healthy and the byb look healthier?

Well, I think that it will just show what the most prevalent issues are in boxers today - regardless of where they come from.

Why do they not ask for TgAA? ???

I thought the thyroid stuff was just wierd???

I filled it out for 3. I'm glad that I keep good records. The others I've had were either temporary (fosters) or mixed breed. Kind of sad though to look through Savanna and Bubba's health records

I filled it out for my three.  It was sad on Star's, all orthopedic issues, bloat with and without torsion...he's a mess!

Will they be publishing the results for the public to see?

I did Zaynah, my only purebred Boxer who is deceased :'( and saved the link to do Koda and Mukki.  Or would it be better to wait until they're older?  It doesn't seem that the data can be updated as new problems and eventual causes of death happen and I'd like to submit as much information as possible.  For one thing, I haven't had their hips tested yet (Mukki's not old enough, and hasn't been holtered yet only because she's not even 2) but am planning to.
