Travelling on raw
« on: October 27, 2011, 09:40:07 PM »
So our 20 hour move is looming closer and closer (1 month now) and I'm wondering how to travel with Stori with raw food?  We aren't going on a route that would allow us to stop at a grocery store each meal time, how do you guys travel with raw eaters?  I was thinking dehydrated raw, but not sure how I feel about that.  We'd only be travelling for 2 days.

I travel with raw when I go to the shows- sometimes 4-5 days at a time.

I have tupperware containers I fill with frozen food in baggies, I then put them in my big portable chest cooler buried and filled with ice.
I keep a small cooler to hold a days worth at a time to defrost in (add ice as needed)
Hamburger tends to start browning on the outside a bit, but other than that, no problem

Oh awesome, thanks Jill.  It will be at the end of november too, so i wont have to worry about the food getting warm in the car.

I do basically what Jill said. And I'm crazy enough I will be driving to our Nationals next year feeding raw. Taking 12 days worth of raw with me LOL!

I put raw meat frozen in a cooler chest with plenty of ice and thaw enough for each day during trips too.  I recently returned from a week long camping trip with Artax and this worked out great, still had cold, unspoiled meat when we got home.  I brought canned salmon too, which is a daily part of my dogs' diet.  Good luck with your move.

Thanks everyone.  We're moving on Tuesday.  Stori has been a bit of a stress ball, so have I.  But that's good to know that meat will be okay for a longer amount of time.
