Black boxers??????
« on: July 24, 2011, 05:47:42 PM »
Okay, I have been reading a lot of the posts about the "black boxer".  I have recently read several breeders listing for black boxers.  One even shows pics of an entire litter that all appears to be black and white pups.

I think that they are beautiful dogs but after reading everything on here am not convinced that they are true boxers. sure look true though.  I am fairly certain that some, if not most, of these breeders may be BYB, but I do not know this for sure.

Genetically, it is impossible for there to be a black boxer.  A reversed brindle looks very much like a black but in the light you will see the brindling (brown stripes)  Again, no such thing as a black boxer...period

Yep and I suspect the link you posted is for an irresponsible breeder if those photos are their "breeding stock"... since one is white.

Ditto Claire but there are boxers that are so heavily brindled they seem black ( Boxerpal's onyx) but if you look hard enough you'll see the fawn stripes

I would definitely think BYB. So many things about these pics scream out at me. The outside kennels. Keeping puppies outside on straw. :wrong: The white puppy looks like something is mixed in it. The two adult 'black' ones also don't look true to the breed to me either. The one with floppy ears looks like a hound or something.

If you want to see the closest thing to 'black' boxers, check out Kenon Boxers website.  (just google Kenon boxers and you'll get there).  There's where my Onyx came from and she's about as black as they get.  Her brindling is pretty visible on her 'off' side but on her show side, there's very little brindling at all.

By the way, Ohio is the puppy mill capitol of the USA. What you see here may not be a BYB, but a puppy farm.

Pray for these dogs.

That was line a couple of years ago when they were pushing the breeder-restriction legislation -- actually the second-largest puppy mill state, since Missouri has a pretty firm hold on the title for largest puppy mill state. (Search for "second largest state" and puppy mill and you'll see the term applied to a number of states, all of which have had breeder-restriction legislation introduced in the last few years -- OH, IA, OK, NC, PA -- whichever suits the purpose at the time.)
