DCM supplements are expensive!!
« on: October 24, 2010, 09:20:45 PM »
I've joined the Yahoo Doberman health group Jennifer advised me to and learned a lot, about the disease, treatments and supplements/preventatives.  I placed an order for what a very knowledgeable member advised me to, from the least expensive sources I could find, and have so far spent about $340 for a 3-month supply, and still need to pick up some B-complex vitamins which should only be a few to several dollars at Wal-Mart.  So over a hundred a month just on supplements, no medications yet, which will likely continue for at least a few years.  I've already spent over a thousand on diagnostics too, echocardiogram and bloodwork, not counting the holter test.  I don't know what it will cost when my cardiologist wants to put him on the first actual drug to slow progress of the disease, enalapril, probably after our next echo in five months.

Here is what Koda will be taking as soon as it all arrives here:

l-carnitine -- 2g twice daily

taurine -- 1g twice daily

CoEnzymeQ10 150mg + 200mg Lecithin once daily

Miller Pharmacal Magnesium Aspartate -- 65mg twice daily

fish oil -- 1080mg EPA and 700mg DHA once daily

B-complex -- 50mg once daily

If you don't have plenty of extra money to spend on your dogs, make sure they don't get DCM!
