Ugh, need a new food
« on: September 24, 2010, 03:41:58 PM »
I am going to have to find a new food to feed my guys.  It needs to be reasonably priced since I have 6 mouths to feed, I go through about 30 pounds of food every week-week and a half.  I haven't checked exactly, but about that.   :dizzy2:

There is one catch, Lucky is highly allergic to chicken, the food cannot have chicken fat in it which is the major problem with most dog foods.  I have found that even the so called "limited ingredient" ones have chicken fat  :wall:

Right now they are on Science Diet Nature's Best Lamb and rice.  It is not great, but I have been able to afford it through a feeding program through work.  They are now limiting all employees to 40 lbs a month

I was looking at EVO, and California Natural: Herring and Sweet Potato, but am open to anything that is affordable and ok for my boy to eat.  Anyone have experience with these foods or any others without any chicken in them?

Just checked the Canidae website and their lamb and rice formula doesnt appear to have chicken fat in it

I didn't think about this, but I would love to homecook, but I work 2 jobs and look like this   and feel like this :stars: most of the time.  Also so unsure of amount and balancing...time is a big issue.
Is there an easy way to do it for 6 dogs and is it cost effective?

What price range are you looking for for a 30 lb. bag of food?
I am not sure, I have been paying $8 which I know is impossible.  Maybe $35-40?  There is also the problem of finding it around here, so shipping may be an issue.

I am going to check out the local Co-Op store probably tomorrow or Monday and see what they have to offer.
Thank you!

I second this - these are some good foods that tend to be on the cheaper end of the scale for premium foods, at least in my area.

I use the TOTW salmon.  I usually buy the 15 lb. bag and it's around $24.00 I think.

I have checked into TOTW, I used to feed it.  There is one store in the area that sells the 30 lb bags for $45 a bag, online similar prices.  I like the California Natural, so I am trying to find a local distributor of that.
