Ever heard of...
« on: May 03, 2007, 07:58:03 AM »
Dave's Simply the Best Dog Food? I was at a new pet food store that just open around the corner (yay!) and saw this. It had on the bag in huge letters "Dog got gas?"  so I was reading the ingredients cuz I had never heard of it....and it has corn in it.  Isnt that the main cause of gas in dogs?  3 years ago I wouldnt know better and probably would have bought it! Thanks to this forum I am more educated now!  :2thumbsup:

OH...side note...what is the best "grain free" kibble to buy? I have Zoe on Canidea and I am afraid to switch her to something else.

I love the nature's Variety raw instinct for KiKi.  They have a canine kibble as well.

Grain free kibble I have tried is Timberwolf dry and Natural.   We are on Timberwolf Ocean Blue when not on raw and they use potato as their only grain source.

I know Solid Gold have barking at the moon - but never have tried it.

is that from Dave's soda and pet food city???  That place started in Western Mass years ago and is now spreading.  I won't go to the stores around here, they smell so bad, and the animals that they do sell (birds, reptiles, fish) are poorly cared for.  I even know the guys daughter.  That dog food is junk!  Dog got gas?? Yes from your bag o' crap food!!

No, this was a normal pet food place called Pet Kraze (no animals sold there).  This food was right next to the Canidea I was picking up so I started reading about it and showed it to my husband..."look it has corn in it...but its suppose to stop gas!"  :laugh4:

Well then the guy who "developed" it out here has found a way to distribute elsewhere. Here is his website about his "great" products   ;)

It's not the worst dog food in the world, but I sure wouldn't feed it.

For a grain-free food, try Nature's Variety Raw Instinct, or Innova EVO. Wellness just came out with a grain-free cat food called CORE. No dog food yet, but it could be following soon.

What do you guys think of this:

The lady at the pet food store said it is like canned food, but all meat.  I was wondering if I could feed that and then a grain free kibble?

It looks good to me. I would supplement with kibble, like you said, or use it as part of a more balanced diet. I've used Real Meat treats for my pups - they love the jerky.
