New crate
« on: May 19, 2010, 08:37:28 PM »
Up until now Isis has been in the plastic crates in the same spot in my living room. Now that she has outgrown the larger one I bought her a wire one that will do the rest of her life.

She slept in it last night with no problems but I had to move it to a different spot today so it would fit better in the room and so far today she hasnt been to keen on the move.

Is this a pretty common thing for them to be a bit uncomfy with change of that sort?

I covered it with a blanket so that it is still den like but I know it is different. I have been giving her treats in it and leaving the door open like I did when I first got her to get her used to it as well.

I wish I could leave it where the plastic crates where but it just isnt practical.

Yes - it varies by dog, but some really don't like changes in routine/placement.  Familiar is comfortable for them, so strange can be upsetting. Give her time to realize this new space is "her den" and she'll be fine.

yep, every dog has a prefrence and the changeover itself will take time.

Ca$h did better in wire, Sonj in the Veri kennel, Z was trained with both, so neither upsets her.

I just took down my whelping box a few days ago and set up one style of each.
Xeno prefers the wire so far and Xenia prefers the Veri Kennel.
Xenia will cuddle up with him in the wire (doors still open at this point (surrounded by an X-pen) but will kick Xeno out of the veri Kennel when he tries to snuggle up in there with her.  I guess that is HER room-LOL, but HE is supposed to share his- kids!! ::)

Mine like the wire crates but do not like the portable ones.

I put her a Kong in there with nummy treats and after going around with it for a few minutes she settled down and is sleeping peacefully

I put the fuzzy sleep bed thing from the other crate into there. She has had one of them since the beginning so she is a bit big for it but she dosnt care. It smells familiar and that counts for a lot I think.

I added more covers on top and sides now so that it is even more enclosed and made sure she could still see out into the room to watch tv or us :)

I honestly dont know how I got so lucky with her she is so laid back.

She will eventually get use to it. I would not worry about it to much.

Remi is growing out of her Plastic crate so we have  to go get another....I think Im going to stick with the plastic ones they have a huge one at tractor supply store for cheap lol I just like them better for some reason.....Reeko really never needed a crate.....we kept the one that he was shipped in and he went in and out freely but the door was rarely ever closed. Id say she probably just needs some time to adjust to it
