Potty on command
« on: February 18, 2010, 09:19:39 PM »
Well Porter has learned to potty on command. Who knew and I found this out the hard way this morning. Getting ready to leave for work so I say "Let go outside and potty" Dam if Porter didn't squat and pee right then and there.  I managed to stop him in mid stream. We went outside and I told him "go potty" and he squatted and peed. I've got to be careful on what I say to him from here on out.  ;D

He is such a good boy!!!

:laugh4: Good boy Porter!!! We are all convinced at our house that Sed speaks English, seems he passed that on to his son.  ;) Just be careful when you say the word b-a-t-h, he will disappear on you.

Riley will do the same thing for me if he is on a leash (which is almost never).  I will take him out and say "Riley, go pee." And he will squat! haha. It is so awesome.

Silly Porter just has to learn not to do it in the house! haha

WTG, Porter!

When I'm housebreaking I always tell them "go pee" once we're outside, then lots of praise when they do, same thing whenever they're on a leash and I want them to go, like when we stop for breaks during long car trips, so they know what I mean and I don't have to walk them around for a long time waiting while they wander around sniffing stuff thinking we're going for a walk in this cool new place or something.   ::)

We are all convinced at our house that Sed speaks English, seems he passed that on to his son.  ;) Just be careful when you say the word b-a-t-h, he will disappear on you.
:laugh4:  Mine hide when they hear "bath" too, and I have to be careful about many other words, like food, walk, ride.

We've had Blade for 2 weeks now, and he is already trained to go on command too.

It's been pretty easy.  Every time we carry him outside to go, we set him down on the grass and say "go potty".  Of course this is in conjuction with crate training, so he would almost always go within a minute of putting him down.  We then give a treat and tons of praise.

The consistency has paid off!

Today, I took Blade out for a potty break.  He went on cue.   10 minutes later my daughter was outside playing with him and didn't know that he had just gone potty 10 minutes earlier.  She said "go potty" to Blade, and I told her that he had just gone 10 minutes earlier and that she should be careful about saying "go potty" so as not to confuse him.

Guess what Blade did?  Sure enough, he went on que!  The great thing about it was the fact that it was just a tiny trickle, which means that he was only going because of the "go potty" command!  :2thumbsup:

He also sits on command pretty well too.  But man, recall is not working at all!   :(
