HR 3501 - happy act
« on: December 04, 2009, 10:30:44 AM »
Would anyone here use this to take a tax deduction ? It seems that all vet care and feeding can be deducted as an expense . this could come in handy with all the health testing costs .

I have also heard that some would be scared to claim pets deductions . They think it could change their status from property to dependant with owners being changed to custodians . That this is a way for the AR people to get another foothold into controlling what we do with out pets.

The bill can be seen here .

I would be happy to have another tax deduction. As for property/dependants....well....I dont think of Beas and Peas has property.  They ARE my babies.

I think I would use it...I don't believe anyone would be able to tell me what to do with my kiddos...I wouldn't listen.  Don't now so I don't see how they would be able to make me if I used this.  I think it is a good thing, cept I think it should be for EACH pup!

I think that that's taking it a bit far, and honestly, I think a $3500 tax break is a little far as well...we shouldn't be able to write off all of our pet costs...they do provide us joy and health so they should be basically free for us...

I'm wary of the way it could be twisted, honestly.  And I don't think their normal care is worth enough for me to go through the trouble of claiming it.  I'd rather track my charitable giving more carefully and use that a deduction.  I keep forgetting to write down the small items that you don't get receipts for.
