Arlington TX dog in urgent need
« on: October 22, 2009, 03:28:39 PM »
Please don't beat me for making this my first post. I understand you all do keep an eye out for those in need and help when you can but wanted to bring attention to one in particular.

Pinky is a one year old male boxer with a treatable case of cherry eye who was just surrendered to Arlington Animal Services in Arlington Tx on his first birthday. I'm in MA and hoped to do a long distance adoption to have Pinky join my family and an existing Boxer but finances and time don't allow it.

Because the shelter is full and probably bc of his eye he's slated to be euthanized tomorrow morning at 10:00a.m. They all pull at my heartstrings but I can't shake this one from my head and I'm hoping someone here can leap in and foster, sponsor or adopt him. I've contacted 6 local rescues so far. Only one has written back and the volunteer there says they're likely full.  I just called to ask how I can buy him a few days to find a home and was told that sponsorship or adoption fees can't be paid by phone, they must be paid in person.

This is him; his ID# is 8974444 and he weighs 40-50 lbs.  Looks just like Blues, my 4yo male.

Any local fosters out there?

Have any TX rescues been contacted to see if they can take him?

I would start with the rescues too. Some shelters work closely with breed rescues, but others operate on their own and it's up to concerned folks to let the rescues know that these dogs are in a kill shelter and need help.

Oops, I didn't read your post very carefully! I just noticed this:

So I guess that answers the rescue question. Maybe someone can pull him and become a temporary foster home for one of the rescue groups. Some of them do allow that - the trick is just to find someone in the area.

Try contacting the NOrth Shore Animal League which is here in Long Island, NY....they save dogs from all over the country.

=( Someone named Jen just returned my call and said they can't assist me.  The way they work with out of state rescues is that they have contacts in certain states that pay the fees to release the dog and have it transported to the organization in NY, into foster care or wherever the dog is headed to and she has no resouces in Texas to facilitate that.

I'm so sad. I've put so much into this today and have gotten nothing but dead ends.

This is just terrible!  Don't we have any members in Arlington that could foster this poor dog until it finds a forever home?

I'm speaking with an intake and foster coordinator from Austin.  Can anyone help transport him from a vet in Temple that she deals with to Austin?

Admins, forgive the redundancy; I'm going to start an additional new thread seeking transport if that's okay.

I did, I did, I did!  Man, that feels good.

Austin Boxer rescue is going to have him picked up and taken to a vet in Temple to be vetted (is that the proper term?) and address his eye and then he'll head to  Austin until he finds a home.

Thank you all for your help and support.
