How long
« on: May 17, 2009, 01:36:22 PM »
should I wait for Peas diarreaha to go away after switching her to Kibble (it was pretty much a cold turkey switch from Raw) before I take a stool sample to the vet.

Wow I never did cold turkey...and from raw to kibble.  How long has she had it?

Wouldn't cold turkey be the way to go, since you can't mix kibble and raw in the same meal?

I'd probably give it a week to show improvement as long as she wasn't losing weight or showing any other ill signs from having water butt. I wouldn't expect perfect poo in a week, but something firmer than what she started with.

If she doesn't tolerate kibble, will you switch back to raw? Would Beas get switched too?

Yea but when I transitioned I did one meal kibble or homecooked and one raw.  I still do that and I only had a bit of an issue when I did Phoebe from kibble (crappy brand that that was given to us when we got her) to raw, but that was only one or 2 poos.  And I didn't do it cold turkey as I said.

She's been getting Canidae since Tuesday evening (Jen sent along a few days worth or Raw but suggested going cold turkey).  It's hard to tell if she is having ill effects...her collar is a bit looser but she seems to have gotten taller (she's more leggy anyway).

As for Beas I am switching Peanut to the food that he's already on.

Why don't you try and add some pumpkin and see if that helps firm thinks up?

I have added rice for the last three meals and that's not helping...so I will try the pumpkin tomorrow (might have to get some at the store tomorrow)

Yeah, I knew you were switching Peanut.. my question was if Peanut doesn't tolerate kibble well, will you switch back to raw? In which case, would Beasley also be switched?

Probably not for several reasons. 1.) Beas tummy is so sensitive I dont think he'd tolerate it at all.  2.) I called the local pet store and they sell Nature's Variety Raw and for a 6 lb bag...it's $30-$50 a bag.

: sigh : just took Peanut out potty and her bum practically exploded...do you think giving her an acidophilous (sp) tablet might help?  I feel like she is getting thinner but dont know if that's because she runs around like mad chasing Beas (in addition to having the diarreaha) or if its just the diarreaha.

I wish I knew why my babies always have potty issues.  It's making me feel like a bad mom.
