more about the recalled food

I just saw this on Huffington Post.  It says that 39,000 pets got sick or died from the tainted food.

I heard more like a possibilty of 100,000 since ppl had NO idea that there was a problem and it could have been as long as from feb 2006!  The 15 cats & 1 dog were menu foods lab dogs!

I saw that article this morning - that is insane!

I was wondering if it had occurred earlier too, because a friend's cat died of kidney failure last summer and the cat ate Iams its entire life.  Now that it's been recalled and kidney failure is a known result of the contamination, we think it might have died because of the food.

Ugh, this is sooo heartbreaking.  A woman called and spoke w/a co-worker earlier 'cause she didn't know who to call and her puppy died of kidney failure

So sad....I wonder how many puppies or older pups (kitties) were put down for kidney failure and it was becuz of the menu foods mess.

I don't think I would find your job too great right now...I would hate having to be "politically correct" about all this stuff.  So darn sad.

Thankfully my job in terms of this mess is just handing off media inquiries and posting releases.  And when the stray petowner calls, we can be totally sympathetic and try to redirect them to someone who can help if they want to have their pet's remains tested or whatnot.

it's really sad to think of the poor pet owners trying to coax their dog to eat after becoming sick, not knowing the food was making them sick.

I should bring this article into my vet. They still have the 15 and 1 statistic in their counter reader. I told them last time it was more and they kind of shrugged it off.
