What do you use for High Value Treats?
« on: October 14, 2008, 10:51:43 AM »
I need to find something that is high value that will get the girls attention when training with distractions.  What does everyone use for high value treats?

I've started using left overs, because cheese just didn't seem to cut it.  I eat only half of my burger or chicken breast or whatever (a good way to diet, lol.. save it for the dogs!)... Of course in your case, it's saving half of Al's burger or chicken.  :laugh4:

I'd work really hard at attention in low-distraction areas before you start expecting much change in high-distraction areas. Dash will just turn and try to grab the treat without missing any of the "action" - I have to learn not to keep a treat ready in my hand... he does a smash and grab on me! (not a literal smash, that's just a name for a type of robbery, lol)

I use VERY small pieces of cut up salami, sausage, or whatever I have.  I also use hot dogs sometimes too.

I boil chix tenders with a tablespoon of chopped garlic.  Drain and rip the chix in to little peices.  Works wonders and the garlic is attracts by the smell.

Highest value for my dogs is beef or peanut butter.  They'll do anything for either of those!

I've tried beef or turkey and my dogs won't eat either one!
