Limiting Number of Dogs
« on: August 31, 2008, 10:35:15 AM »
Apparently they've passed a law in Peru that limits the number of dogs that can be in a household.  I find that pretty scary, even if it's not in the states. Hopefully laws like this do not start spreading.....

There are already laws like this all over the US; most are a bit more lenient, I'd say three dogs is probably the most common number, but some areas I know of do have two-dog limits (and some have higher).  Sometimes there are kennel licenses available for larger numbers, but in some areas these are "in theory only" as they're supposedly available but never granted.

It's perverse, really, because eliminating dog limits would go a long way toward decreasing shelter numbers; many people would happily buy a dog from a shelter if they were allowed to have more than their current number.

It is probably more common than most would think .
There are pet limits in R.I., parts of Mass  and here in Md too . And most of these regulations have been on the books for a many years .

In one county ( in Md) there is a limit of 3 pets ( cats and dogs ).In the county I moved to I was told the limit is 9 , but have not bee able to find it in writing yet .

I didn't realize that these types of regulations were so common in the states.  I guess I was just a little surprised at the really low numbers (1 dog for renters, 2 for homeowners).  I hope that's not what the regulations here in the states are leading to...but unfortunately with AR groups, who knows.

In my town you can only have a three dog per household limit or you have to get a kennel license and get inspections.
