By Rebecca Ferrar (Contact)

After two recent attacks by dogs, one of which was fatal, Knox County Commissioner Ivan Harmon is proposing an ordinance to control animals deemed dangerous in the county.

"The lady got killed and the little girl got attacked," Harmon said. "Any vicious dog that has been involved in any aggressiveness would be subject to the dangerous dog ordinance. (Police) can actually go on the property and take the dog if it shows aggressiveness."

In some cases, the dog would be required to be neutered, spayed or even destroyed....

Didn't say what happened to the owners of the dogs?  Fine and/or jail time?

unless i missed something, i didn't see where they are singling out specific breeds which is good.

the regulation seems reasonable for aggressive dogs, but leaving it up to the county to deem what constitutes aggression is sticky.

I dont' think they should be allowed to go on someone's property and just take the dog!

I think just about any dog could be considered dangerous/vicious when protecting his yard from strangers .

Everyone can , and probably does have a different interpretation of vicious.

A boxer can SEEM aggressive when someone strange approaches their home.  That doesn't mean they ARE aggressive... Just wary, that is how they are SUPPOSED to be.. What does that mean for correct temperaments....

These dog legislations are getting out of hand, something REALLY needs to be done!
