Title: Vet visit
Post by: Bruins_Boxer on December 16, 2014, 08:41:47 AM
Took Edy for a vet visit , to check out a bump in her mouth . It was right in front so it was very easy to notice. It was only hyperplasia and she said to just watch it , no sense taking it out unless it bothers her .

She also decided to keep Edy on the proin , did not want to switch to des as it has many more side effects . The urine sample showed no infection but lots of crystals , so we are hoping to get that under control .
She also mentioned having an ultrasound done to see what is the cause of the incontinence . If it is from the c-section or spay . If it is then there is no reason to keep her on the meds as it will not help . I may do that after the new year .

One thing she did notice is that she see some muscle wasting in Edy's rear legs . I then mentioned that she was at risk for DM . She told me what to watch out for and to let her know if I needed any info to let her know .

Missy has spay incontinence.  The Des does help quite a bit.  It is just occasional when she is laying down now.  I am keeping  :fingerscrossed: that DM is not in the picture for you and Edy.

Dm is always in the back of my mind now that she is getting old .
Her grand sire , great grand sire and great great grandsire all passed because of DM .

Dash has a VERY hard time holding his bladder when he gets crystals. I think they irritate things, so the dogs have a hard time fighting the urge. I find he gets them when he's on grain free that is too high in protein for him (struvite crystals).

Hope you get some answers!

Maybe check into cranberry supplements for preventing/reducing struvite crystals. Worked wonders for a cat I had years ago that had chronic problems with crystals in his bladder. If DM is in Edy's future, fingers crossed that it will be slow progressing. :fingerscrossed:

She did say that the crystals may be the problem and causing irritation, but they never found crystals before ( though I don't remember if they said they checked) .
