Title: Video - Weaving 12 Poles
Post by: Mom2Rocky on December 21, 2011, 02:45:51 PM
I won a set of 12 weave poles in a raffle our training facility held.. They are used, but work the same as new  Our trainer put them in the raffle because she is upgrading to a newer set since AKC is going to 24" weaves.. These are 22".. But it doesn't matter..I'm soooo happy LOL!

Heres a video of Rocky working his new weaves. They are sooo much better than the ones we had sticking in the ground

Nice raffle prize- score.
Always nice to have a decent set at home to practice.

Surprised your facility was still using the 22' inch poles. Sounds like they are upgrading now? Most venues have switched to 24" poles. I have not seen anything other than 24" at an agility trial in over 3 yrs (at least in USDAA and AKC). I know the AKC rules are making it mandatory as of 1/1/2012. Thanks goodness.

Although the 2" diff in spacing is not much, it still effects how your dog weaves and the 22" is hard on their bodies. Also changes their footwork.
One of the reasons AKC switched to the wider poles. We upgraded to 24' poles at home this summer. Actually bought the channel weaves.

My friend with Golden's wrote a nice blog post and a did a great video of narrow weaves vs wider weaves on her dog and a smaller dog.
Pretty interesting stuff.

The facility that we trial at always uses 24"... However, my trainer has multiple sets and this was her last 22" set. They break down into 4 parts.. and I think she was keeping them around because they break down into 4 sets of 3 poles. Easier to teach a beginner dog on :) She is upgrading some of her equipment over Christmas break so it will be neat to see what she changes.. Anyways.. Rocky & I learned on these..  Then once he started doing 6 weaves we went to the 24".. So he hasn't really worked with this set since .. well probably a year or so...

Very nice video of the comparison with the golden.. He has to work hard to get through those 20's..We have never worked with 20's... I  do notice a little bit of difference when Rocky weaves 22" compared to 24".. but it isn't much..

I do feel sorry for the larger breeds .. Some even appear to have issues with 24"...
