Title: The final product...

Homemade chicken strips. Look just like those nasty China made ones! 4# of chicken strips made ~12 ounces of treats!!! And it only took 19 hours of dehydration! What I do for these pups!

Looks Great!
My mom dehydrates chicken for her Yorkie, who is a VERY finicky eater.
She uses a dehydrating machine and not her oven.
Yours look really good!

OK...I have two big bags in the freezer and two more in the fridge...they are LOVIN it!! I guess I need to break down and buy a dehydrator since it takes so long in the oven...I take it you can just set the dehydrator and let it go...not have to stay with it like I do the oven?

OK...I have looked at Dehydrators on line and see lots of them....any preference as to brand or model? What's best?

I got this one, brand new btw, for $3.00 at the St Vinnies in town.  It is a magic chef one, works pretty good, if I do say so myself and you can see thru it.  A friend has a Nesco one, nice too and adjustable.  Mine, this one at least, only has 1 temp, ok with me cuz I want it to dry thoroughly so I don't have to freeze or frig the stuff.  Does a great job.

I have another one, I never used, some place in my house...just cannot find it

$3.00!!!!  :o I need a bargain like that.  I'm seeing prices from $30 for the small Ronco to $60 for the big adjustable Nesco.  But I know it will pay for itself in no time at the rate these two love their chicken snacks. Maybe we should start our own...Made in the USA Chicken Jerky business!!

My only suggestion Deb is to get one that you don't have to rotate the trays that way you truly can just let it run. Ours is a cheaper one from Walmart and you have to rotate the trays every hour or so. Takes about 6hrs to make 4lbs of deer jerky in it so I would assume about the same for chicken.

Oh no...I don't want to have to rotate trays...thanks April! I'll be sure to look for one where I can just set it and leave it.

I set and forget, and IF I am in the mood and find some spare time on my hands (like never) I rotate trays, but it is not mandatory at all to do this!

We have to get back to buying USA made products.

  Off topic, but I recently found this company that sells clothing made in the US.  I try to buy American products when possible but it seems almost all clothing is made elsewhere.  I hope this company succeeds and starts offering more products.  I already placed an order.

For those of you looking for a dehydrator, you might want to check out this site. I don't want to spend a lot to get started, so I think I will go with a Nesco.

Do you have a Menards around? Maybe there
Or do I like I did, go to a second hand store like Goodwill or St Vincent de Pauls.  Might be there too

for poultry it says to use pre cooked meat to dry it do you cook yours before you did it

No, I sliced it very thin tho...I understand why it would say that tho, for human consumption it might be dangerous, but I have made beef jerky and I did not precook that either.  For the dogs chicken treats, I just season well with garlic powder and then dehydrate.
