Title: My mom's boxer mix needs home
Post by: Bers on July 05, 2010, 11:44:33 AM
Hi gang! My mom is looking to rehome her senior boxer mix, Shilo. She (my mom) has lost her home to foreclosure and is moving to a trailer park that won't allow large dogs. Shilo is about ten years old, brindle, has her full tail, and weighs about 70 pounds. She is sweet, friendly, and protective. She is good with other dogs and with cats, loves children, and is content to just hang around the house with the family. She has a mast cell tumor about the size of a ping pong ball on her face, the vet said she wouldn't live more than six months and that was three years or so ago. She really just needs a home where she can live out her last years in comfort. We would take her ourselves, but we already have a house full with three dogs and three cats in a very small home. It's really a heart breaking thing for my mom to have to give her up, but she doesn't know what else to do at this point. :'(

Oh God Amber! Whatta awful situation. I feel so bad for your mom. I really wish the best for her and Shilo and hope you can find a home for her quick. Poor girl, and poor Mom. My fingers are crossed that she will find her place to be.

Well, that situation is not so nice. Hope you can find a good home for the pup.

Awww, bless her heart!  I'm sure your mom is devastated and I just hate that she has to give up her sweet companion.  I wish I lived a bit closer and could foster Shiloh or something.  Good luck, Amb.  I'll keep a good thought for a good outcome.

Thanks everyone. No luck so far. The boxer rescue says that adoption are very slow right now, foster homes are overflowing, and no one is adopting older dogs. :(

Could you possibly take her until a rescue can find her a home?

I think she's going to have to come here. I hate the thought of watching her get sick and die, not to mention the thought of adding one more animal to this crowded house, but we can't stand the thought of the alternatives, which are all very bleak. I am really torn up over the whole thing, and so is my mom. It's just not a good time right now. :'( Koda will be happy to have Shilo here - he loves her. Let's hope the girls love her too.

Amber you have such a good heart. I would probably do the same thing by taking her in. I'm sure the girls will be fine with her. Please let me know if you need me to do anything.
