Title: THat's it!
Post by: Theresa on May 19, 2010, 12:36:06 PM
My back is hurting and I have slept like crap the last few days.  Any suggestions on how to transition the pups to sleeping on the floor or in the crate (with the door open)?

Why transition?  It's your bed.  When mine come up I tell them 'off' and they go.  My sleep is more important than their comfort at night. lol

Missy was used to sleeping with Danielle or me.  Jeff doesn't want them in bed so they just kept saying off.  Now the only time Missy tries to get in bed is if it is storming because she is afraid of thunder.  After the storm she gets back down most of the time.

:laugh4: I just keep moving a bout. Making it more apealing for them to sleep elsewhere.

If Precious is in my way I just say scooch and she moves.

Mine do too, but they make sure they don't come anywhere near me. lol
Todd can sleep like a pretzel since he is the one who wants them up there.

Theresa, I can relate!  The last two nights have been hard for Michael and me. Tyson insists on sleeping right between us and insists on pushing against us all night.  He was being so good about sleeping at the foot of the bed and even when we move him down there or I just keep pulling the blankets out from under him so he keeps shifting, he won't move!   :inquisitive:

That's pretty much how it was for us.  I got them a bed for the floor (didn't used to have anything in my bedroom), told them to lay down on it, and then told them "off" for the first few nights when they would try to come up into the bed.  It only took maybe 3 days for them to understand and now they never try to come up unless they are invited.

well, Z will get down if I play "sheet snake"- she hates it  :laugh4:

scratch under the sheets near them with your fingers- just enough to make a noise and the quickly grab their leg thru the covers

Off like a rocket  :devilish:

Xena will sleep on a dog bed if we tell her to.  Dash will climb back up when you are sleeping too soundly to realize. He'll get off if we tell him, but then he just waits until we can't give him the command.   He's too smart for normal rules.  :wall:

We only get dogless sleep when Dash decides to leave us alone or we crate him.  :brood:  Otherwise we get part-nights at best.

I got used to it...I am thinking of using the dog bed for myself...maybe they will want that then???

Sheet Snake huh? Hmmmm

Well...Pnut has been crated the last nights days and I have made Beas sleep on his bed too.  I do let them up in bed around 5:30 -6 ish.  As soon as Beas is used to sleeping on the floor on a regular basis I will start transitioning Pnut out of her crate

Shawn tried to drop the hammer on the dogs earlier this week. I just laughed and didn't say a word. Tuesday night, he thought if he blocked the bench they use to get up, they wouldn't get up there. As soon as he stepped away, the snuck up like sharks and laid down by my feet. He told them off, they got off, then 30 minutes later when he started snoring, they both climbed back up (nice and slow) and laid down. Wednesday night, they both played his game. Slept on the floor after 1 attempt to get up, as soon as he got tucked in, they crawled up....and went to sleep. Last night, he gave up and let Rubi stay up there, Grady decided he'd sleep on the floor. Woke up this morning with both of them with all 4 feet in the air, laying on their backs, snoring, laying right between Shawn and I. The dogs always win! LOL

Doesn't bother Precious at all.  I do it to her all the time.  She just keeps on snoring away.

I just started with telling them to go to bed.  When they got on THEIR beds, I gave them a treat.  If they tried to come up into my bed, I told them "No, off".  It took a few weeks to really sink into their hard heads, but they have nice cushy beds and blankets on the floor now.  Zoe still sneaks up sometimes at night.  I don't know how she does it without waking either of us!

Same here, which is why I was able to make them get off the first few nights when they tried to sneak up.  If I were a heavier sleeper I'm not sure how it would have worked.

Beas was pretty good last night because he only tried to jump on the bed at the begining of the night and once in the middle of the night.  Hopefully tonight he will stay down the whole night.

Oh they wake me up everytime they sneak up there. But I dont mind cuddling with that sweet mooshie face resting on my leg. It's Shawn that has a prob with it. heck, I'm pretty much awake anyway cuz he snores like it's going outta style. LOL

I like a snuggle as much as anyone but between allergies and sore backs from the akward sleeping positions I am in...I am exhausted.

Plus, Bob and I are planning on having kids in the near future and I wanted to transition the pups out of the bed before then.

Aaron is a deep sleeper and I'm one of those people who wakes up, but only enough to know I'm awake, not enough to recognize that there is something I should do (kick the dog off the bed, etc)... Dash knows this well.  Even the nights we've been awake long enough to persist through his first "sneak" attempt, we've always ended up waking up with him back between us!  ::)  Clever little dashole.

:wall: Bob is untraining Beas and Peas.  I was able to get them to sleep on their beds for a few nights but the past few nights we've had the windows open at night so Peanut will jump into bed (even though there are blankets on their beds) and snuggle Bob.  When I tell her to get off she doesn't listen and Bob is like "Just let her stay" at which point Beas also gets into the bed :wall: I think I am going to make Bob start sleeping on the floor wtih the dogs if he wants to snuggle them so badly

Oh too funny! I am sorry I know it is serious, but it brings back such memories :roflol:  Walker has not tried to sleep with us, heck he doesn't even try to get on the couch, and that is really surprising!  He has his crate, his bed in the living room and he has a rug on the floor beside my side of the bed.  The best part is my bed sits up really HIGH so he can't jump up on it, at least he dosn't know he can yet!
Theresa, did you get it resolved?  If not I am thinking you could make your DH an offer he can't refuse, the dogs in bed and no lovin or dogs out of bed and lots of lovin :action-smiley-031:

Sounds like Bob is the one that needs some training!   :laugh4:
