It's come up a couple times, people asking what reverse sneezing is or having a dog go through it and not knowing what it was...

I found this page that has video.
http://www.petplace.com/dogs/reverse-sneezing-in-dogs/page1.aspx

Dash gets attacks that sound and look a lot like the first dog, although he tends to walk around during them... usually he walks over to me so momma can blow in his nose and make it go away!  smitten He gets them quite a lot and is also prone to sort of gagging/coughing when he eats training treats too.

Here's the Wikipedia page on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse_sneezing

Thanks for posting.  I didn't quite know what it was.  Precious does this once in a while and it always scares me.

Ah, thanks Julia!  I've never seen Trigger do that before, but my lab, Eve has!  I didn't know that's what it was or what it was called!

Eek!  Minutes??  Tell your boss to blow in her dog's nose and let it rest already!! Sheesh.  I believe Vicky's also said you can stretch the neck and massage the throat.

Does that help?

All she does is say "It's ok, it's ok" over and over again until it stops.  Roll Eyes She was convinced it was from her wearing a collar, but she still does it with a harness on...so there goes that theory.

My Boston Terrier growing up got this alot.  Felix gets it occasionally.  I usually just massage his throat when it happens.

Dash stops if I blow in his nose.. maybe it doesn't work for every dog, but it works for him.

It's not collar related, Dash has never had an attack with his collar on! He has them mostly inside the house where he always goes collar-less. Sometimes he "chokes" from pulling on his collar, but that's a very different thing... that's just his throat/mouth reacting, not his whole body.

One article I didn't post (hard to read) mentioned an irritation of the soft pallet.

Thanks for posting this. I was never quite sure what it was but now after watching the video I know exactly what it is and my dogs have done it before but not often.

LOL... Blow *IN* his nose.

I just hold Dash's muzzle and do one quick burst of breath into his nose. He stops sneezing, licks his nose a couple times and settles back down.

Myah, my Boston does this often.  I heard to put your finger over their nose until they stop.  It actually works.

Eek... I'd be worried about blocking their nose. I'm sure it's not long enough to endanger them, but I think I'll stick to adding air instead of taking it away.

Yorkies actually do this quite often too its part of their breed from what I understand.
My aunt had a a shih tzu that did it all the time and she would blow in her nose too. Keira my cocker does it once in a great while, but with her its always when she's not getting enough attention when we're eating dinner. Sounds like she's having a lil mini panic attack. I just tilt her head back and rub he throat and she stops.
