I recently received an inquiry about Penny's prospective litter from a man that wanted a breeding animal.  I feel that I was upfront but polite in my response that I don't place breeding animals I only place show prospects on full registration I also said that, I don't know any local breeders that health test that will either, but if he would like I could keep his info.
His response was, I am not a SUPER BREEDER, don't judge me or my dogs, and that not to keep his info because he isn't interested in anything I have and that he bets my dogs were originally from lines that were show dogs with the intent to breed.......

I simply replied that I was sorry he took me rude, but that I felt it was best to be upfront about the placement of my puppies and that I wasn't judging him, but telling him my policy......

I hate that part of breeding....  Why are people so defensive?  It makes me think that he actually DOES have something to hide.

Ugh...well of course your dogs were SHOWN with the intent to breed.  That's the PURPOSE of showing...to determine if a dog is a good candidate for breeding (not all dogs are).  BUT that doesnt mean that you arent doing the RIGHT thing because you SHOW with the intent to breed.  In fact it means the opposite.  PLUS you do the health testing which is ALSO the right thing (afterall who wants to invest the love, emotion and money into a pet that might just drop dead before it reaches middle age).  I saw SCREW HIM!

I think he took me as being pompous and I took him as mean,  Wink.   Some people do not and won't understand WHY breeders are protective of their lines, but I feel it is important for them to TRY to understand.....  a lot of work goes into breeding!!!!

I think most people are also just used to walking into a breeders ( used lightly here) house and walking out with whatever puppy they want . No questions asked .

Yes, I get that impression from this person. He does seem to LOVE his dogs (he has two males), but he wants to breed a litter "mainly for family".....

I would not let this bother you...If he had the best of intentions, then I think he would understand your reasoning.  His loss...not yours IMO

Yeah, it is.... I just worry now who will he contact?Huh?  I think it was a set up by a past acqaintance, he brought up her name in one of the emails and asked me specific questions, so I think she had something to do with the contact in the first place.  I told him I was cutting the contact off with the mention of her, and haven't heard from him since.  I was going to try to educate him slightly (if I could), but with her name being mentioned, I am not even trying!

You did the right thing.
I have seen breeders refer to a page on their website where they explain their position, rather than verbally with a person.
It saves you from getting into verbal confrontations or upset and filters for you the people that contact you for a pup.

My 2 cents....... move your "What to Expect" link to the home page.

I am not sure how he got my info, but I don't think he really even looked at my site other than the dogs... Which in it's self is frustrating, because my position is posted there...  It makes me wonder if people REALLY care about position of a breeder, and just think if offered $ they will change their position, maybe some breeders will........ no no

Maybe I will link to that page from several areas!!!!

Don't worry about him.  You have a great position on what you expect and require from potential dog owners of your babies.  He has a different outlook so he needs to look elsewhere for his dogs.
